A Great Effort

I am really proud of what our guys did this season. And did you read the article talking about Joe Crawford and what would he say to anyone considering coming to UK? He basically said it's really hard work, but Coach will make you the best that you can be and he'll love you and change your life. If that's not an endorsement, I don't know what is. Way to go Coach BCG! You have alot more people believing in what you can do. I can't say I'm not disappointed that we didn't get further into the tournament, or win the SEC - of course I always want my Cats to do well. I can say that I am proud of the way our guys changed things around and put forth all the effort and then some. Things were looking pretty bleak, then came some conference wins and BAM right back in there.
Next season is only a summer and football season away. I really think that this has been a great learning experience for the guys coming back next year. They learned that if they work together as a team, seemingly unbelievable things can happen. It was quite amazing to see Bradley and Crawford step up and take over the last part of the season when Patterson was injured. (Get better buddy)!
The future looks bright through my blue colored glasses!

Has it Been That Long?

I guess it has... I went to the UK / UF game in January - Wow! Even though they lost in overtime, The Cats looked good. Then over the last few weeks they were on a roll beating Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia. Then came Vandy. UGH, nuff said. Moving on to the next few games we have a very tough LSU team, then a few games at home (thank goodness) against Georgia, Arkansas, and Ole Miss.
It's of course not out of the realm of possibility to win 6 out of the last 7 games...

What am I looking for? Not necessarily 6 out of 7 wins (or 7 out of 7 for that matter) though I'll take it if I can get it. What I really want for this season realistically is for our beloved Wildcats to work hard, put forth the effort and to become more consistent with that effort. Rome wasn't built in a day, we can't expect miracles no matter how bad we want them. We have some talent coming in over the next few years and hopefully more young kids will be more interested in the winningest program in NCAA history. So we can stretch that lead even further. Espeically those guys who are growing up in Kentucky. They have a chance to be responsible for getting Kentucky back to that place we all want them to be. Back to a leader in college basketball.

I see so much potential with this team this year. The fact that we have had to play without some of our players due to injury makes it even more difficult to deal with. "What if?" There's a saying "If ifs and buts were candies and nuts it would be Christmas everyday" Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hang in there Kentucky fans. Tomorrow's another day.
A famous redhead once sang:
"Just thinkin' about tomorrow clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow, come what may...
Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow, you're only a day away"

Abracadabra! 6-6 isn't so bad, is it?

The Wildcats have won their 6th game of the season beating FIU at Rupp. With arguably our 5 best players playing in the game at the same time, the team is starting to show some signs of chemistry. My cousin attended the game. Back me up here cousin, am I right? I know it's FIU. Again I said this before. It's going to be a long season full of ups and alot of downs. But if we can stay healthy we might have a shot an upset or two this season.

We play the slimy gators in a few weeks and I am hoping desperately that we go into the swamp and come out will all of our limbs. My cousin and I are going to the game and hope we come out with all our limbs.

For the first time in a long time, longer than I can easily remember, we are rounding out the bottom of the SEC East. Hold on Wildcat fans, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

It's a very difficult time of the season. It's easy to give up and say I'll just watch again next year. But you will really be doing yourself a great disservice. You have the opportunity to watch coach BCG work his magic, even if it is with somebody elses rabbits.

Cats Are Music City Bowl Champions Again

Let's pause for a moment...and reflect on this win. Which BTW, had me on the edge of my seat for NO GOOD reason. Explain to me, Micah Johnson, why when you intercept the ball with less than a minute left to go in the game, you proceed to run down the field instead of falling down???? I was yelling at you to get down, along with the rest of the Big Blue Nation watching the game, didn't you hear us? The game would have been over a play later with the touch of Andre Woodson's knees to the turf. Ah, geez. Look, it's not that I'm not grateful you intercepted the ball, but you've got to follow through. Haven't we Wildcat fans suffered enough? Not to mention the fact that FSU was playing without their full complement of players.
I don't mean to pick on MJ, but plenty of games have been lost because of bone head plays. (UK fans know this all too well).
Let this be a lesson to young football players (all ball players, really). You have to keep your head in the game AT ALL TIMES. There isn't a moment you shouldn't know how much time is left on the clock, what the score is, and when it's prudent to fall on your butt.
Enough said. At least for now.

5-5 Half Empty or Half Full?

Ohhhh, I see so much potential for this team. The glass is definitely half full.
UK leads the SEC in free throw percentage made... at least that's something.
Today's game was actually fun to watch. I realize it's only Tennessee Tech, but still, at this point I'll take what I can get.

I felt like they played better. The hustle is back, the defense is back. Kentucky has done well this year when they have kept the opponents scores under 70 points. That comes down to playing good defense, not allowing offensive rebounds, and holding their opponents to poor shot selections. I realize we are not going to be an offensive power... at least not for a few years. I don't want to dwell on the past, but remember back in the day when people hated to play UK because of the tenacious full court defense?? I am looking forward to those days again.

Still playing without Jasper... and now Meeks is sitting again due to hip flexor injury. UGH. Just when things started to look up. We are so lucky to have Patrick Patterson. He has been shooting extremely well and we need to get him the ball more. We need someone to make some shots on the outside to open things up for him. Personally, I think Bradley needs to spend a little more time practicing because his shooting isn't impressing me. Bradley has got to step up and make some outside shots. But let me be fair about this, he is the point guard and not really our shooting guard. However with the injuries we've had he's gonna have to do both.

Turnovers are killing us... but I think that has something to do with the inexperience that we have on the court. Only one way they are going to get experience... we'll just have to grin and bear it.

We've had a rough start to the season, but at least I can stand to watch them play. After last season, I know things are going to get better. It's going to take some time, and maybe some pixie dust :) We'll get there.
